The fairy: Good morning, madam. How are you?
The woman: Good morning. I would like to have a little child; can you tell me where I can find one?
The fairy:
Oh, that can be easily managed. Here is a seed (дает мешочек с семенами); put it into a flower-pot, and see what will happen.
The woman: Thank you very much.
The fairy: Goodbye!
The woman: What is a beautiful flower!
The woman: You are so tiny girl! Not bigger than my thumb. I will call you Thumbelina, or Tiny.
(the poem “Friends”)
The stars are out, the moon is up.
It’s time to go to bed,
I’m so glad you have a place
To lay your little head.
Have a deep and peaceful sleep,
Dream away the hours,
When you wake the sun will come
To smile upon the flowers,
Go to sleep, my little friend,
Beneath the evening star.
You will always have a friend,
No matter where you are.
What a pretty little wife for my son!
Tiny: Where am I? Where is my Mother? Who are you?
Toad: My son will be your husband, and you will live happily.
The little fishes: She is very pretty, I am awful to think that she must live with the ugly toads.
In summer and in autumn Tiny lives alone in the forest. She has got a bed of grass and leaves. She eats the honey and drinks the dew. The winter is coming.
It’s winter now, so bundle up tight!
Warm mittens and caps will be just right.
Ice on the lake, snow on the ground,
Time to ski and skate all around.
Tiny: It is very cold and rainy. I am cold. And I am wet. I am very hungry too. I can not live in the field in winter. What shall I do? Where shall I go?
The field-mouse: Who are you?
Tiny: My name is Tiny.
The field-mouse: You are poor child, come into my little house. (Входит в домик) You are welcome to stay with me all the winter, if you like; but you must keep my rooms clean and neat, and tell me stories. I like them very much.
Tiny: Thank you a lot.
The field-mouse
My neighbor, Mr. Mole, invites us to his house. He is very rich. If you could only marry him… but he is blind… (появляется крот) Good morning, Mr. Mole, how are you?
The mole: Good morning, Mrs. Mouse. You are welcome!
The field-mouse: This is Tiny. …little girl.
Tiny: Good morning, Mr. Mole, nice to meet you!
The mole: I can’t see, but I can hear well. You are a nice girl with a lovely voice!
Tiny: Thank you, Mr. Mole.
The mole: Now I want to show you my house.
There is a hall. There is a kitchen. There is a living-room. There is a dining-room.
The mole: She is a Bird. She will not sing anymore.
Tiny: (укрывает ласточку теплым пледом) O, my pretty little bird.
It is the bird’s heart. What’s wrong with you, my dear?
The swallow: Thank you, pretty little maiden. I hurt my wing. I’m cold. I’m hungry. I’m thirsty.
Tiny: I help you. There are some seeds and water for you
The swallow: Thank you very much. I hope I will be healthy very soon and can fly again in the warm sunshine.
Tiny: Oh, it is cold now; it snows and freezes. Stay in your warm bed; I will take care of you.
Сказочница spring comes, and the sun shines brightly.
Spring is here, summer is near,
Grass is green, so nice and clean.
The swallow: Would you like to go with me?
Tiny: I can’t leave Mrs. Mouse. She was very kind to me and will be sad.
The swallow: Goodbye, my pretty little maiden.
The field-mouse: You are going to be married, Tiny. It is very well for a poor child like you.
The mole: Now it is very hot. The wedding will take place when the summer is over.
Tiny: I don’t want to marry the mole.
The field-mouse: Don’t be silly, my dear, or I’ll bite you with my white teeth. He is a very rich mole; the queen herself does not wear more beautiful dress. His kitchen and cellars are quite full. You must tell thanks.
So the wedding-day is fixed. Tiny should live without seeing the warm sun, because Mr. Mole doesn’t like it.
Tiny: Mrs. Mouse, may I go to say goodbye to the beautiful sun?
The field-mouse: Yes, of course, you may go to look at the sun for the last time. My poor child, you must come back very soon!
Tiny: Goodbye the bright sun! Goodbye! Greet the little bird from me.
The swallow: Tweet, tweet
Tiny: Oh, my dear! I’m glad to see you! How are you? I’m so unhappy, because I must marry the mole, and never see the bright sun anymore.
The swallow: My dear little Tiny, you saved my life, and I want to help you. I am going to fly away into warmer countries. Let’s go with me!
Tiny: Yes, I will go with you!
The swallow: This is my house, but it won’t be comfortable for you to live there. You must choose one of those lovely flowers.
Tiny: That is beautiful.
I like flowers that are bright,
I like flowers that are white,
I like flowers with a nice smell,
That blossom in gardens so well.
The little prince: Nice to meet you, the prettiest little maiden I had ever seen! What is your name?
Tiny: My name is Tiny.
The little prince: Tiny? You are so pretty! We will call you Maia. Would you like to be my wife, and queen over all the flowers?
Tiny: Yes, I would!

Woman: I would like to have a tiny little child. Please, could you tell me where I can find one?
Fairy: Oh, that is easy. Here is a grain of barley for you, but it is not at all the sort of barely, that farmers grow in their fields or that the chickens get to eat. Put it in a flower pot and you will see what happens.
music 2 ( песня Д. Колдуна ”Work your magic»)
(Fairy sings) Fairy Song Welcome to the night
And you will see you’ve got the magic power.
I am on my way, I keep the key to your tower.
You can serve me something really hot,
Call it love or madness ,
But you’ll get the best of what I’ve got .
Work your magic.
I never wanna lose this feeling,
I am able and I’m willing,
Yes, I’m willing .
Woman: Thank you so much! Take these twenty pennies and I go home to plant this barley seed. This is such a pretty flower. I’ll kiss its lovely petals!
Fairy: The woman kissed the flower and it gave a loud pop and opened. It was a tulip and in the middle of it there was a tiny girl. She was pretty and fair but she was no taller than a thumb. So she was called Thumbelina.
music 3 (coming Thumbelina)
Thumbelina: If I could be a flower, A flower, a flower…(Dancing)
Woman: Dear Thumbelina, this walnut shell will be your cradle. Your mattress will be made of blue petals of violets and a rose petal will cover you when you sleep at night. In the daytime, you will play on a table.
Fairy: You , girl ,can sing too. Besides you have the sweetest voice in the world.
ACT 2
music 4
Toad Mother: What a beautiful little girl! She’ll be a perfect wife for our son!
Toad Father: You are quite right, my darling. Let’s take the shell with Thumbelina in the garden. I know there is a big stream in it.
Toad Mother: Yes, we shall take her home. Imagine what beautiful grandchildren we’ll have. Our son is like his mother, slimy and smart. And this girl is not bad.
Toad Father: I can’t agree with you. That is a very disputable question, my sweetheart! All our neighbors say our son is like his handsome and incredibly clever father. By the way, imagine what problems we’ll have. All these guests, wedding party, dresses, orchestra, flowers.
Toad Mother: You are really very, very clever husband. How I love you. This marriage will bring us so many troubles. Let’s count…
Toad’s Son: Co-ax, co-ax, brek-ek-eke! How beautiful she is! I want her to marry me!
What a nice girl, Look into my heart — you will find
There’s nothing there to hide
Take me as I am — take my life
I would give it all I would sacrifice!
Toad Mother: Don’t speak so loud, or you will wake her up.
Toad Father: And she won’t be able to run away from us while we are making our best room under the mud ready for you two to live in.
Toad’s Son: My dear parents, my mummy, my daddy. I want to marry. I wish! I want! I will!
I must wait for the sun rise!
I must think for the new life!
And I mustn’t give in!
Help me, please. We are the family –The toads Family!
Toad Mother: Is not he genius, Is not he romantic?
Toad Father: Like father like son, my dear!
music 5
FIVE BIG SPOTTED TOADS
1. Five big green fatty and pretty and spotted toads,
Were sitting on dirty and nasty and muddy roads,
Eating the bugs,
Eating the most delicious bugs,
Yummy, yum.
Chorus: Five big spotted toads,
Sitting on a muddy road,
Eating most delicious bugs,
Yummy, yum.
One jumped in pool,
Where it was nice and cool.
Nice and cool.
Thumbelina (waking up): Where am 1? What am I doing here? (She starts crying. The toads appear.)
Toad Mother: This is Mr. Toad. Meet my son, Mr. Toad Young. He is to be your husband.
Toad Father: We want to take your pretty bed and carry it to the room underwater. Do not worry! We shall take care of your future! Co-ax, co-ax, brek-ek-eke!
Toad’s Son: I love you so much! Be my wife!
Don’t tell me it’s not worth fighting for
I can’t help it there’s nothing I want more
You know it’s true
Everything I do — I do it for you!
(They go away with Thumbelina’s bed.)
Thumbelina (crying): I don’t want to live in the slimy Toad’s house! What shall I do?
Swallow: What a darling little girl! I feel very sorry that you, so pretty, have to go down water to live with that ugly Toad. I will help you. Give me one end of your sash, please.
Thumbelina (giving her sash): I am a happy little girl again. The Toads cannot catch me.
ACT 3
Music 7
Maybug Mother: Buzz-buzz-buzz! What a wonderful girl! I love her! Let’s fly nearer to her!
Thumbelina: My goodness! I am so scared. And I am so sorry that my nice bird flew away without me.
Maybug-boy: How pretty you are! Don’t think about that bird! Let’s sit down on a large green leaf of the tree.
Maybug Mother: I am going to feed you honey from the flowers. Soon all the other Maybugs who live in the tree will come to see you. Try to charm them! Oh, here they are!
Maybug song 8 ( мелодия песни – припев Tom Jones – “Sexbomb”)
Oh, when the bugs come out in spring,
Oh, when the bugs come out in spring.
We want to be outside watching it
When the bugs come out in spring.
We’ll see some crawl; we’ll see some fly
We’ll count how many go marching by.
We’ll watch and see how many we know
Of the bugs that come out in spring.
Maybug 1: Why, she has only two legs — what a miserable sight!
Maybug 2: She hasn’t got any feelers! How can she fly?
Maybug 3: She is pinched in at the waist-how shameful!
Maybug 2: She looks like a human being — how ugly she is!
Maybug 1: Only bugs are beautiful and good-looking.
Maybug 2: Yes, you are right. Only bugs are great! She is awful! Br-r-r-r!
Maybug 3: Only , only bugs are super heroes! That is our verdict-She can’t stay with us! It is a shame to have her in our company!
Dance 9
Maybug-boy (to Thumbelina): I know you are as pretty as ever. But if they call you ugly I have to agree with the rest of Maybugs because they are my friends.
Maybug Mother: We are proud of our honest name – Great Bugs. And we do not want to have a quarrel with our respected and prosperous friends! You do not match us! You can go wherever you want.
Thumbelina (crying): I am so ugly and no one loves me!
ACT 4
Field Mouse: I am so busy! So much work about the house I should do! I have no time to visit the beauty saloon, to meet my charming friends, to chat over the phone! Surely, I need a servant!
Thumbelina (to Field Mouse): I am so poor!
Field Mouse: You, poor little thing! Come into my warm room and share my dinner. You may stay with me for the whole winter, but you must keep my room tidy and tell me stories, I love them very much. At last I will be like a rich lady-I will have a Girl -servant.
Thumbelina: I promise I’ll do everything you want.
Field Mouse: Soon we shall have a visitor. Once a week my neighbor comes to see me and he is even better off than I am. His rooms are large and he wears a beautiful black velvet coat. You must tell him the very best stories you know.
(Mr. Mole appears on the stage )
Mole: Good morning, I am very glad to hear you because as you know, I am Mr. Mole. I don’t care at all about the sun and flowers.
Field Mouse: It does not matter; you are so wealthy and wise. Your home is more than twenty times larger than mine.
Thumbelina (singing a song): Flowers, Flowers, flowers, flowers!
Mole (saying aside): She has a very sweet voice. I think that I’ll fall in love with her.
Mole: There is a long tunnel from my house to yours. And I invite you to use it and visit me. But don’t be shocked by the dead bird which is lying in the tunnel. It must have died recently when the winter set in. It was buried in the middle on the tunnel.
Thumbelina: Poor bird!
Mole (giving the bird a kick): Now she will not be chirping any more. What an awful thing is to be born a little bird. Thanks God, none of my children can be a bird, who has nothing but «chirp, chirp», and must starve to death when winter comes.
Field Mouse: Yes, you are right. You are a wise man.
ACT 5
Thumbelina: dear, pretty bird. Goodbye, you pretty little bird. Thank you for your sweet songs last summer, (She lays her head on the bird’s breast.)
Swallow (opening her eyes): Thank you, pretty little child. I have been wonderfully warmed. Soon I’ll get strong again and be able to fly again in the warm sunshine.
Thumbelina: Oh, it is cold outside.
Swallow: Thumbelina is kind to me and cares about me with love. Soon spring will come. Yes, It is spring and the sun warms the earth. It is time to say «goodbye». Let’s go with me!
Thumbelina: No, I cannot go.
Swallow: Goodbye, goodbye, my good and pretty girl! I am going to fly into the sunshine. Chirp, chirp!
And you know, everything will be,
South wind will be blowing strongly,
And spring will do any wonders,
And memory stays for ever.
We’ll meet warm weather and sunshine,
We’ll meet warm weather and sunshine,
And the bright sun will awake you
And warm wind takes away you.
Happiness – it’s a free bird!
You’ll miss it and will not catch it.
In gold cage you are to suffer
It does not fit you, It’s difficult, you see it?
ACT 6
(The Mole appears.)
Mole: Well, Thumbelina, you are alone in the world and I need a wife. I am going to marry you. So get ready.
Field Mouse: What happiness! Our neighbor, Mr. Mole, plans to marry you. You are his bride. You must work and work this summer.
Thumbelina: I am not at all happy about it because I am not fond of you, Mr. Mole.
Field Mouse: Nobody cares what you think. Just go and get ready!
Mister, Mister, Mister Mole, touch your nose , touch your toes;
Mister, Mister, Mister Mole, touch the ground, turn around.
Dear, dear Thumbelina, you have touched my heart, my mind
Dear, dear Thumbelina, such a girl I `l never find!
Chorus: Climb the stars and say your prayers
Turn the light and say “I love you”
Mister, Mister, Mister Mole, turn the light, say” I love you!”
Love you — Goodnight — Love you- goodbye!
Mister, Mister, Mister Mole, climb the stars and say your prayers,
Mister, Mister, Mister Mole, turn the light and say goodnight!
Dear, dear Thumbelina, I love you, please, love me too,
Dear, dear Thumbelina, everything I `l do for you!
Field Mouse: Your wedding day is in four weeks. Everything is ready for Thumbelina’s marriage with Mr. Mole
Thumbelina: But I do not want to have Mole for a husband.
Field Mouse: Fiddlesticks! Don’t you be obstinate, Why, you are getting a superb husband. You have to thank God that you are getting him. (Thumbelina starts crying.)
Thumbelina: Goodbye to the sun. Farewell, bright sun!
Swallow: Chirp, chirp! Chirp, chirp! I am so glad to see you, Thumbelina.
Thumbelina: I am so unhappy I hate to marry the Mole
Swallow: Now that the cold winter is coming, I shall fly far, far away to the warm countries. Won’t you come along with me? You can ride on my back. Just tie yourself on with your sash, and away we’ll fly, far from the ugly Mole and his dark hole — far, far away, over the mountains to the warm countries where it is always summer and there are always flowers.
Thumbelina: Yes, I will go with you!
ACT 7
Swallow: This is my home. If you choose one of those wonderful flowers in bloom, I’ll place you in it, and you will have everything that your heart wishes.
Thumbelina: That will be lovely! But who is this?
Elf: I am the spirit of the flower. In every flower in my country, there lives a small man or woman just like me. But I am their king. I love to see the sunlight in your hair, And tell you time and time again how much I care ! Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow,
Hello! I’ve just catch to let you know
‘Cause I wondered way you are
And I wondered what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely,
Or a someone loving you ?
Thumbelina (softly to the Swallow): Oh, isn’t he handsome?
Elf: I am so pleased to see you. You are the prettiest little girl, I have ever seen. (He takes off his crown and puts it on her head.) May I know your name?
Thumbelina: My name is Thumbelina.
Elf: Thumbelina, be my wife and I will make you queen of the flowers.
Thumbelina: Yes, my charming king, I will marry you.
Elf: My best gift to you will be a pair of wings. You will flit from flower to flower with the help of them. You will no longer be called Thumbelina. That name is too ugly for someone as pretty as you are. We’ll call you Maia.

Song “I see Thumbelina”
1. I see Thumbelina when the leaves dance by,
I see Thumbelina when the clothes wave «Hi!»
I see Thumbelina, you see Thumbelina,
We see Thumbelina when the clothes wave «Hi!»
I see Thumbelina, you see Thumbelina,
We see Thumbelina when the clothes wave «Hi!»
2. I see Thumbelina when the trees bend low;
I see Thumbelina when the flags all blow.
I see Thumbelina, you see Thumbelina,
We see Thumbelina when the kites fly high,
I see Thumbelina, you see Thumbelina,
We see Thumbelina when the clouds float by.
