1. The palace of Westminster is the place where the Parliament works. Big Ben is a
symbol of London. The clock began to work in 1859. It weighs 13,5 tons. The Clock Tower is
95 meters high and you have to go up 374 steps to reach the top.
2. There are 14 bridges across the Thames in London. Tower Bridge is the only bridge
which can be raised when big ships come up to the bridge. It was built in 1894.
3. Buckingham Palace is the official London home of the Queen. There are 600 rooms
there. It was built in the 18th century. The flag flying over Buckingham Palace is the
sign that the Queen is at home.
4. Westminster Abbey was built in the 11th century. It is the church where nearly all
the kings and queens were crowned and where many famous people were buried such as Isaac
Newton, Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens.
5. St. Paul’s Cathedral was built between 1675 and 1710 by Sir Christopher Wren. It
is the fifth church put on the same site. It is 111 meters high. There is the Whispering
Gallery there. You can hear what is said on the opposite side, 32,6 meters.
6. The Tower of London was built in 1078 by William the Conqueror to defend London.
Later it was a royal palace and a prison. Now it is a very popular museum. The Crown
Jewels and the great collection of the medieval armour are kept there. The ravens are
another famous sight.
7. It is Trafalgar Square. It was named to Admiral Nelson’s naval victory over the
French at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It is a place where people meet. There are many
birds there because people feed them. The height of the monument is 56 meters

Many a true word is spoken in jest.
We continue our travel. As I have already said, there are many holidays in Britain. And I
am sure you know St. Valentine’s Day is coming. Some of your classmates are ready to
speak about this holiday.
– You can hear a lot of poems on St.Valentine’s Day. Let’s listen to some of
them.
Friends
Friends care, friends share,
We need friends everywhere!
Make new friends, but keep the old,
One is silver and the other gold.
Circle round that has no end
That’s how long I want to be your friend.
Valentine poem
Five nice valentines just for you
The firs one says, “My love is true”.
The second one says, “You have my heart”.
The third one says, “Let us never part”.
The fourth one says, “Won’t you please be mine?”
The fifth one says, “Till the end of my life”.
A Friend
A friend is like a flower, a rose to be exact,
Or maybe like a brand new gate
That never comes unlatched.
A friend is like an owl, both beautiful and wise.
Or perhaps a friend is like a ghost
Whose spirit never dies.
A friend is like a heart that goes strong until the end.
Where would we be in this world
If we didn’t have a friend.
My Valentine Heart
When I say I Love you,
It comes from my heart.
You hear it in your ear,
And it sounds very smart.
I love it when you are proud of me,
You say it all day long.
And when I hear you say it,
My heart sings a merry song.
Valentine
Here is a valentine.
I made it just for you.
With paper and ribbons
And lot’s of Elmer’s glue!
I cut it with my scissors
And designed it with my paint.
If I tell you that I love you,
Do you promise not to faint?
A Different Language
I met a little girl
Who came from another land.
I couldn’t speak her language
But I took her by the hand.
We danced together,
And had such fun.
Dancing is a language
You can speak with everyone.
But ST/ Valentine’s Day is a merry holiday. We’ve prepared competitions for you.

My dear, dear mummy,
I love you very much!
I want you to be happy
On the 8th of March!
I like the way you look,
I like the way you cook,
Now I want to say:
«Happy Mother’s Day! »
Mom is such a special word
The loveliest I’ve ever heard
These words to you, above all the rest,
Mom, you’re so special,
You are simply the best!
Mommy I love you
More than you see
You have always been there
When I needed you to be
I wish there was more
For you I could do
But all I can say
Is how much I love you
***
It is deeper than the oceans
Higher than the sun
I could shout it forever
And still not be done
***
I have a special treasure
A gift from up above
A precious treasure
It is my mother’s love.
***
You are more than just special
You are a part of my heart
Locked there forever
Never shall we be apart.
All of my dreams,
You made sure came true.
Putting yourself aside,
Even when I hurt you.
***
You’re not only my mother,
You’re also my best friend,
No one can ever change that.
It’s not something that could end.
***
I know that I am blessed,
From heaven up above,
So lucky to have,
My mother’s love!
